— A new facility for treating patients with acute respiratory syndrome and coronavirus is being built in Tennessee, and it is expected to open within the next few weeks.
The facility, the Tennessee Valley Medical Center, is in Nashville and will be the largest of its kind in the U.S.
The new facility will be a collaboration between Tennessee Valley Health System, which is in charge of the hospital, and St. Jude Medical Center.
St. Jude said it will use a combination of vaccines and therapies to help patients survive coronaviruses, and the new facility is expected be able to handle patients who are suffering from both acute respiratory illnesses and other chronic conditions.
The hospital is also slated to be the only health care facility in Tennessee that will offer medical home visitation services, which will allow patients to spend time with family members, close friends or community members.
Health experts say the new facilities are the best way to address the challenges facing hospitals in an era of rising infections.
“If you are in a facility that is dealing with multiple infections, you’re going to be very limited in your options,” said Dr. Chris Wrenn, president and CEO of St. John’s Medical Center in Nashville.
“It’s not a great place to be, and yet here we are with this new facility, and we have the opportunity to provide the best care to the patients we serve.”
The new Tennessee Valley hospital will be located on an area that is home to more than 1,000 medical residents and 1,400 staff.
